April Happenings: Melissa Steggall
Dear Edison Families, ITBS Test were given
to 2nd – 5th grade students starting March 29—April 15th. 3rd —5th Students take only 5 components on the
ITBS: reading comprehension, math concepts and estimation, math data interpretation and problem solving, science and vocabulary.
2nd grade take the 5 above stated areas and word analysis. Student results from grades 3—5th
are submitted to the state department and then compared to our scores last year. As a School in Need of Assistance (SINA)
we need to make at least 10% growth from last years scores to move toward Delayed Status.
Our results will be provided for us mid May, and we will be ready to celebrate. The ITBS test is just one indicator of our
success, and we still have one quarter left. We will continue with After school Intensive Support through May.
Special Thank you to University Ave Hy-Vee for partnering with us in providing healthy snacks during the ITBS Test. Hy-Vee
donated half the cost of the snacks (apples, bananas, raisins).
At Edison we believe that success is our only
option! Our mission is to strive for excellence! Our #1 rule is: Safty First.
Check out our visons
statement on the "All About Us" Page.
Sincerely,
Melissa Steggall
Edison Principal
Helping you child do well at school:
- Make home a place of learning. Help your child practice reading, writing,
math, and science skills. Stimulate your child’s creativity.
- Promote healthy habits. Make sure your child gets
plenty of sleep and exercise and eats balanced meals. Schedule regular check-ups.
HELP OUR SCHOOL BY SAVING. . . Box Tops for Education logos found on the box tops of hundreds of General Mills products will earn cash for
the school. Just clip the coupons and save them until you have a few to send to school. We receive 10¢ for each coupon
we turn in. You don’t lose, as only schools may redeem them, and our children benefit from the money we raise. HyVee Receipts that are saved and returned to Edison will be totaled, and at the end of April, will be turned
in for cash. Receipts from all area HyVees qualify. Most have an orange edge. We are in desperate need for those HyVee Receipts.
We are way behind last year’s goal. Your child’s safety is one of our top priorities. Our desire is to provide a safe and secure environment
that allows your children to reach their greatest academic potential. Here are a few reminders: - Guest in the Building When ever you enter the building please check into the office, sign the visitor log,
and get a visitor’s pass.
- Dropping Off & Picking
Up Please park behind the busses in the morning and afternoon. You may also park in the parking lot of Our Saviour
Lutheran Church. Please have your children cross at the cross walk, and not between the busses. When dropping off and picking
up your children please be patient. The driveways can get congested and children are hurrying. We want to ensure all children
get to and from school safely, and that everyone is treated respectfully in the process. These expectations are for their
own safety
